Antigua, Guatemala

Translated post from 2007:

I’m here in Antigua, Guatemala. This city is so cute! It’s the former capital of Central America, and there are ruins of colonial times (Spanish colonization, of course) that really did not impress us at all. We want to see the Mayan ruins, yes! But it will take another 3 or 4 days to get to know one another … Once again we change our itinerary! We were going to Flores, here in Guatemala (including Tikal, the famous archaeological site Maya), and from there we would go up to Belize or to the Yucatan Peninsula, where Cancún is located. But since we want to arrive in Brazil tanned, we’ll leave Cancún for the Grand Finale. So tomorrow we’ll head to San Cristóbal de las Casas, in the central-southern part of Mexico.

Yesterday we took the day to see Antigua, did some shopping.

At night we went to a bar, 1st a bar full of gringos and crazy gringas and then to a nightclub in front. We were not going in because it was 30 quetzales (about 4 dollars – here it is a lot), but of course luck got its way and we ended up getting in for free.

I loved it, there were a lot of people from here, and they have great moves! There was salsa, merengue and reggaeton, and then electronic music. Cheerfully! But at 1am it’s all over. Who knows.

Today we go to Panajachuel, a city in the Lake of Atitlan.
